Expat BenefitsIf an expat is moved to Australia with the intent to move back to their home country afterwards and for a specified amount of time, leaving their property in their home country available and not rented out then they may be eligible for benefits. These benefits are called ‘Living Away From Home Allowance’ this will include moving and domestic expenses as part of their salary at a tax free rate and can also include a tax reduction on holidays with their family.
Holiday /Sick daysEmployees are entitled to 4 weeks of vacation.
An employee is entitled to 10 sick days per year. There are two different categories of sick days, sick leave for when the employee is sick or injured and carers leave for when the employee has to take time off to care for sick/injured immediate family or help during a family emergency.
Maternity LeavePrimary carers of new born or adopted children get up to 18 weeks leave on the national minimum wage. Payments are made from the Australian government to the employer who then pays the employee.
Paternity LeaveWorking fathers and partners (including same-sex partners) are eligible for 2 weeks leave paid at the national minimum wage directly from the Australian Government to the employee.
PensionMandatory occupation pension (Superannuation) is comprised of funds from the employer and government.
Termination/SeveranceWritten notice must be given with a notice period of 4 weeks required for employees who have been employed for 5+ years, 3 weeks notice required for 3-5 years, 2 weeks required for 1-3 years or if the employee has been in the company for less than a year, one week notice is required by the employer. Severance payment is given based on continuous period of service, and pay rate is given for ordinary hours worked.
